Punaball Champions League - Sign Ups!

Ok so first, read this preview topic so you can understand something basic about how the cup will work. Of course, more detailed info will be released closer to the game time, but for now, lets start signing people up to teams! What I'll do here is provide some info on each team, a screenshot of kits for those I've made kits for, and then I'll show suggestions of other teams I could make kits for should people have an interest in playing for them, they will be in brackets. If your team isn't on the list, don't despair, ask us and if your team has played in the champions league before, we'll probably let it in. Of course, home kit is first, away kit the second kit. If theres a 3rd kit.. its... 3rd

I would appreciate it if everyone who expressed an interest on the preview topic did so again on here, just so its all on one place. You can also reach me on skype (shyguy1001) to sign up, and it will be a case of whoever spoke first who gets it if two go for the same team. Please state clearly who will be captain of your team. Captain gets to make all final decisions on who will join him, except in situations where we have single players who want in near the start time of the tournament, then we might hold a lottery/draft or something to decide who gets who.

P.S Please, advertise this cup to everyone you know that might enjoy it! Advertise it wherever, the more we get the more it will have a chance of bringing turbosliders somewhere back to its former glory :) And the more fun for everyone involved too!

-------------------------

As you can see I've provided a lot of teams with kits for you to choose from and still more suggestions for teams I could make kits for if you want them. If you want a specific color and it's not provided in the kits I've made already, tell me and I'm sure I could match you up with a team that has that colour. Otherwise, the only other option if you don't want any specific team but want to play is to still sign up here, but say that any team captain can take you. I'll put you on a Draft List, which lone team captains can choose their team mate from.

Here are the macros for the teams colours, so you can set them manually to test with if you like:

I do realise of course that sometimes there could be kit clashes. Don't worry though, I have 3rd kits on standby for those teams which I can bring in if neccesary. I created one for Real Madrid already just to illustrate it.

So get signing up! Enjoy the kits! And let's host a great cup, with all the games on youtube!

Seems neither spoilers or gif images (they arent moving) dont work on this site, f*** this topic looked so beautiful in BBCeditor.. you will have to open manually to see what real kits look like compared to mine by copying image url then paste + go. Sorry about that and also the wall of text macro at the bottom.

So anyway, get signing up n00bs! :D

I'll play. I won't be available for the test cup though if it's before 11st of August. I don't know my teammate or team yet but I'll announce them later. :)

If you want to be a captain, you have to say what team you want :) Otherwise i'll put you on the "unattached" list and then solo captains can choose you

Before giving confirmation of me to join, please clarify:

1) when does it start?
2) how do we arrange games?

Test cup quite soon, in the next couple of weeks, that will be over a single night, and will be only knockout stages just to test match format.

Real cup will start late August, but I havent specified it yet because it depends on getting enough sign ups!

Matches will be organised via doodle, with the only requirement being that a PCL ref can oversee the match to make sure everything is done right and also give a recording to me. About training some PCL refs, I'll talk to specific individuals who I have in mind. :) If you didn't use doodle before, check it out. Its a website which allows you to show what times and dates you are available, and then your opponents can also put that down. Then, from what overlaps, you can choose your match times. The PCL refs will also put down their availability on it so you can make sure one can attend :)

Let's go to what really matters right now: players. Where is my favourite gang tijny badeend + dede + kyna + +olio+mikenike+storm+hejman+rub+modric? We all now that a puna cup is dubious and hard to organize but let's give one chance to this one, the youtube videos + ucl fantasy created by shyguy will be something worth to be part of it!

I'm not expecting thousands of new pb players after this event, but I will make an effort to call the majority of players I know that play puna. I remember that szymek started to enjoy punaball after one tournament that I created and now he is a super player, and the tournament didn't have the quality of this one!

You can include stealth, although he doesn't have a team yet.

How many days for playing it? The higher the requirement, the lower my possibility to join.

Roughly 1 game a week, for 2-3 months. A bit like F1 League, but games only last 10 minutes or so. And can happen pretty much whenever you want.. thats part of the appeal of this cup! :) I agree Fama, lets get those noobs signing up!

EDIT
To expand a little more on cup length: First the group stages, if theres 3 others in your group, you play them twice, so thats 6 games = 1.5 months. Then say we have 8 teams in the knockout stages - from maybe 12 or so that I hope to sign up! That means the most you could play is 11 games, if you are a finalist, taking place in just under 3 months :) Of course, it depends on the amount of signups. If in a future edition we could the dream number of 16 teams or more, then that opens up more possibilities. You can see that basically, we will have to adjust cup format based upon how much interest there eventually turns out to be!

Ok, I updated first post to fix issues with display images of real life kits and logos. Hopefully that might help people a little more to decide which team they want to take!

Next steps are: Creating kits for those who have selected a team without a kit
Creating macros for easier automation of the cups games, such as for Half Time, Extra Time, and Sudden Death

Lets keep growing the sign up lists! Wheres Eddie, Badeend etc, all the puna masters? :D

Well sorry, but I'm not interested in any PB cups anymore, especially one of this nature - and before you take offense to that, let me elaborate.

Having players schedule their own matches has always been troublesome in the past. I remember one cup in particular where the final was played two months after the semi-finals, and forcefully so, because my teammate didn't even have time to play at that moment. Maybe with a fancy new tool like Doodle it will be different, but I doubt it.
Even if it is only ten minutes of play per week, it would give me many more minutes of organizational stress, and that's just not worth it for me.

My second concern may be the duration of the cup. In a cup that takes more than two months, (some) people are inevitably going to lose interest. And where in a racing cup it doesn't matter much if [POL]Kurwocziczski stops showing up after two weeks, in a PB cup you need him and everybody else for the cup to live on.

Another personal issue for me is enjoyability. I like casual, everyday Punaball with a few mates very much, I can play in whatever way I want without any pressure. In cup games... not so much. It's not that I don't like the pressure, I just don't like the tense, uptight atmosphere that comes with it. I have a keen sense of picking up who's enjoying himself and who isn't, and that very much affects my own mood as well.

I sincerely hope your cup works out, I admire the effort you put into it, and I might just join the test cup - but you will need a very convincing argument to make me join the real thing.

Well Eddie, here is where my trump card comes in - YouTube. That's what I aim to keep interest going with, and drive discussion and enjoyability of the whole cup. People will be interested to play because of YouTube, just as people were interested in F1 League more when that was showed on YouTube. I guess only way to prove you wrong is to have a succesfoul cup, and I'm sure we can do.

About organizational stress, I'm not sure what you mean - that's only for me! All you have to do is put down on doodle what times you are available, and then you can play your games. If a game is unplayable, i'm sure a compromise can be worked out somehow where someone changes his schedule to play, but its quite unlikely really. We scheduled SCARTS race times this way and it was successful so far. Anyway only way to prove your doubts wrong is to show you!

Duration - not true. Youtube will undoutedly drive enough interest that people will be able to step in to replace drop outs. Im almost certain of this, so its just up to me doing my job and creating good quality videos, which I know I can do as its much MUCH easier to record punaball without the constant camera changing and editing.

Enjoyability - I cant say anything about that. If you cant take the heat, stay out of the kitchen ;)

Well, in previous cups like this, I was always looking out for people, trying to get the games to be played. Things like "Oh, there's three of us now, WHERE THE F*** AM THE FOURTH GUY?!" That's what I meant by "organizational stress." I personally felt like it was as much of a task for the players as it was for the organizer, if not a bigger one. This was the main hurdle for me, actually, and if it's going to be as easy as you claim it is, I might be willing to give this another thought.

Oh, and I think I've proven that I can take the heat of PB cup finals - that doesn't mean I like it. :P
