VOTE NOW FOR PUNABALL CUP SISTEM!!!

Post by wazaari » Mon Nov 28, 2005 11:58 am

There is big confusion in punaball cup organisation (since 36 players signed)!!!
I ve a mine own idea of how it should be but i let u decide it:

There are 3 possibilities: (only 3, don t make other suggestions pls)

1 a ko cup (1 vs 1 matches) with the possibilities of play only 1 more match

2 little groups ( of 3 players each) at start and then a ko sistem

3 a firts part of cup with groups and then play off with Ko sistem!!!
(This sistem maybe the better one unfortunaately will need more time for complete it, because more matches are needed to be played)

I need yuor vote, there are only 2 days for express the vote and if few players express it we will decide!!! (but then i don t want to listen any bad coment!!!)

Regards,
Waz

My vote: possibility 3

To help people deciding, i have mentioned some advantages and disadvantages, which each system has got.

example for possiblity 1: (i am not sure though, if wazaari does not mean something else. But i had this idea too when talking to Fergu at his server)
8 of 36 players play 1 qualification match -> 32 players are remaining -> 5 matches remaining
Disadvantage: who will be the 8? (8 latest ones who signed in OR 8 who are not so good OR 8 by random OR ....)
Disadvantage: who will play vs who in a 32' system? Random placed pairs OR better good players set, that they are not playing against each other too early? OR ...
Advantage: maximal just 6 matches/player
Disadvantage: minimal only 1 match/player

example for possibilty 2:
12 groups of each 3 players
2 bests of each group get into next round (-> 24 players remaining)
8 groups of each 3 players
2 bests of each group get into playoffs (-> 16 players remaining)

Advantage?: maximal just 8 matches/player
Disadvantage?: minimal only 2 matches/player

example for possibility 3:
4 groups of each 9 players
4 bests of each group get into next round (-> 16 players remaining)

Disadvantage?: maximal even 12 matches/player
Advantage?: minimal 8 matches/player
Advantage: the possibility, that the best players get into the finals might be the highest here. The result of the tournament would be probably more realistic in that case.

Example for PlayOffs: (A1 = 1st of group A; H1 = Half finalist 1)
H1 = [A1 vs B4] vs [C2 vs D3]
H2 = [A2 vs B3] vs [C1 vs D4]
H3 = [A3 vs B2] vs [C4 vs D1]
H4 = [A4 vs B1] vs [C3 vs D2]
Winner = [H1 vs H3] vs [H2 vs H4]

That kind of playoff system would support the idea, that good players won't meet each other too early.

My vote: system 2.

This was actually my idea, and the setup was meant to be a little different than Mike's example. My idea was to to have 12 groups of 3 at first, followed by 2 knockout-rounds so that 6 players remain. Then there could be 2 groups of 3 which will decide the 4 semi-finalists.
Advantage: Significantly less games than Mike's system. At least 8 games per player is way too many for my taste.
Disadvantage: Good players could meet early on, but you'll always have that chance.

Same system than in Football Word Cup.
If amount of players doesn't go even in playoffs, then some of the best thirds can qualify to playoffs as well.
But two best as default.

both 2 and 3 are ok, although, i would prefer 6 groups of 6, top 2 advance from all + 4 who get the most points, since 5 games in 2 weeks or so would be normal.

Funny how certain people cant make up their minds, but that aside; System nr 2 was already voted the best option due to the big advantages it has compared to options nr- 1 and 2. here they come, sit sight!

Compared to option 1: People would play at least 2 games instead of just one.

Compared to option 3: The games will be actually played instead of 40% or more fall out (experience from past punaball cups).

Although Mike's system is the more handsome one, i can only agree with Tijny: that this system will result in too many games. The higher the amount of games, the more the cup is subject to people quitting, going on holidays, getting married or whatever it is that normal people do, resulting in the cup being where it is today.

Kind regards,
