NEW RULES OF PUNABALL CUP!!! CUP STARTS

PostWed Nov 30, 2005 10:16 pm

Hello all,

We are almost at the start of SIT 4.
Due to popular demand and a small discussion, which was held on the forum on jollygoodgames, we have made some changes in the way this tournament will be played.

Time Trial.
- The first major change is that we will do a time trial (2 or 3 legs times 10 minutes) instead of games with a maximum goal score.
Since players from all over the world will be competing, we think that a time trial-game is more suitable in giving everyone a fair chance of winning. U will all play 2 legs of which one is played on the server of player 1 (or another server chosen by player 1 if player 1 cant host himself) and the other leg is played on the server of player 2 (or another server chosen by player 2 if player 2 cant host himself). The server may not have a higher race-ping than 200 ms for the other player.(which can be checked with the F10 function).
Each leg will be played in 10 minutes, so each game will last exactly 20 or 30 minutes. After the legs have been played, u will add up ur score from leg 1 and 2 and a winner is drawn from it (first leg 5-8 and second leg 6-4 will result in 11-12 overall and the one with 12 goals wins.)If after two legs the score is even (for example: 8-6 and 5-7) then a third leg is held on a neutral server and will be a best of 10 game (who ever reaches 5 goals first, wins. So no time trial in a third leg). The neutral server could be the Auto-server or a server set up by someone else on which u both have less than 200 ms race-ping.

- Pointing system.
Points are awarded as followed: If u win by two legs and u won both legs u will get 3 points (7-4 7-6) and ur opponent will get none. If u win in overall in two legs but u both have won a leg (7-4 5-7) u will get 2 points and ur opponent will get 1 point for the leg he won. If u need to play three legs (first two legs got u an equal score when added up (7-6 6-7 = 13-13), and u win the third leg, u will get 2 points as well and ur opponent gets 1 point for the leg he won.

- Play schedule
The schedule for this cup will be determined randomly online! in a drawing server which will be up sometime this week (we will mail u the exact time). Because 1 server can only have up to 20 players, we suggest that u come to this server (if u want to find out the voting) as a spectator when the server is already full. We will make 36 tracks with each having the name of a player and then select the tracks randomly. This way player nr1 will play against player nr2 etc.

- pool games/playoffs
As it turns out, 36 players have signed up, which is a lot to say the least. In order to make this work and in order to give everyone a fair chance of getting through the next round, we have decided to work out the following scheme:

First round:
All players will be set up in a pool consisting of 3 players. This way u will play two games in this pool.
After the two games have been played, the numbers 1 and 2 will proceed to the next round. The player who ends up third is simply out!

Second round:
The remaining 24 players will again be set up in a Pool consisting of different players.(a drawing server will again point out your poolmates)leaving 16 winners and 8 losers. Same system as in round 1.

Third round:
The 16 remaining players will work out a regular playoff consisting of 8 8th finals, 4 quarterfinals 2 semi-finals and of course, the Final. The voting for this playoff scheme will, as u have guessed, be done on a drawing server.

- Rules:
Because we do a time trial, it is important to keep in mind certain rules. The most important one is that u may not wait longer than 10 to 15 seconds to cross the middle line and start building up your attack. Of course we have this rule so u cannot wait until the time is up when u have a comfortable lead. Pls remember to record all games u play. Because: If your opponent is braking this rule on purpose, u may send in ur recording to us so we can decide to disqualify the game and perhaps also ur opponent. In special circumstances we may also decide to have the game played all over.

Furthermore u are bound to the normal playing rules which can be found on www.punaball.com/rules.htm
Pls remember to record your games!

The track to be used is po_arena7_cavern (which can be downloaded from the punaball auto server) or the punaball-arena made by Ande but only if both players agree to this.
If one of the opponents doesn't want to play in Ande's Arena, u will play on po_arena7! (u then may not play on po_arena7_alien or po_arena7_blue or po_arena7_cheese).
Pls remember to record your games!

- SIT Ranking
As this cup is also being used for the SIT Ranking we have thought up a logical pointing system for the cup that will determine the best 25 players of the cup. The points that are actually awarded to u for SIT are the same as in the first three cups.
The system works roughly as followed:
The points you get will be based on the goals u score and the goals that are scored against u and this is furthermore depending on how well ur opponent did in the cup.

For example:
If u win ur first match against someone who will be out in the first round and u win by 8-6 and 7-6 you'll get the following points: (8*1 - 6/1) + (7*1 - 6/1)= 3. If u do well again in ur next match, say 5-3 and 8-5 against a player who will get through to the second round but does not get through to the playoffs you'll get the following points:
(5*2 - 3/2) + (8*2 - 5/2)=22. As u can see, the higher your opponent gets in the cup, the higher ur score will be if u manage to score some goals against him. For example: when u played that second game against the guy that will reach the semi-final, u would have scored (5*4 - 3/4) + (8*4 - 5/4)=50,45 instead of 22. The multiplier will be 1 if your opponent doesn't reach the second round, 2 when he doesn't get to the playoffs, 3 if he doesn't get to the semi-final or final and 4 if he does reach the semi-final or final.

we wish u all good luck in this cup!

Basher and Waz

p.s. If u have difficulty reaching ur opponents, dont call us!!

Third round:

Would 2 finals (final and match for the 3rd place) be possible to add? Or would that cause problems in your SIT point system?

... cant host himself). The server may not have a higher race-ping than 200 ms for the other player.(which can be checked with the F10 function).

Matches against brasilians might be a problem then, not?

best of 10 game (who ever reaches 5 goals first, wins.

You meant: best of 9 (/goals 5 and /time 0), i guess.

I´m with Matti and Pieter, and Mattis from Finland but I´m not 100 % sure if Pieter is also... We are going to have it pretty easy to make our servers.

You get to play 1 half on your own server and the other half on your opponent's server, that way it's totally fair.
@ TnT: Pieter is from Holland. :)
